Ross Woomer
Ross has been with us since 2017 and has been leading our longsword classes since the dark days of 2020. High octane yet patient, he strives to leave no student behind, expertly throttling drill intensity to match each individual’s limits (or ever so slightly exceeding them). Occasionally, his research will result in a fancy new disarm to try out on someone. Don’t worry, it means he likes you!
Primarily teaches:
Longsword
Messer
Ringen
Ian Marra
A member since 2016, and the first of Ritterkunst Fechtschule to don armor, Ian is a frequent participant at Deeds of Arms (armored events). A true knight errant, he has taken up the task of traveling to and coordinating with other schools, events, and organizations. In doing so, Ian endeavors to foster an active community rich with opportunities to learn and practice the art of arms. He brings the things he learns, discovers, and observes into his lesson plans, connecting them to manuscript advice.
Primarily teaches Harnischfechten (Fencing in Armor) and its various weapons.
His Instagram (and Facebook) is @ian_swordsman
Ed Sleight
Historical law codes, rule sets, medicine, finances, stigmas, and beyond. The rabbit holes are plentiful in historical martial arts, and Ed is our most prolific delver. Context is often crucial to filling in the gaps in the manuals we study, since much of what was taken for granted is now lost. A member since 2015, Ed uses this research to give his classes a whole other dimension.
Primarily teaches:
Sword & Buckler
Sidesword
Spear
